PRT Realities and Futures: ATRA's Second Morgantown, WV Seminar - May 2007
A CD of presentations is available. Order on-line.

Paul Hoffman spoke of new business models for PRT projects.

The Ed Neumann Morgantown Seminar

May 4-5, 2007, the WVU Alumni Center, Morgantown, West Virginia

This ATRA workshop was designed to advance our knowledge of the reality of PRT functionality at West Virginia University, which for three decades has operated with admirable safety a unique and impressive transit 20+-passenger vehicle corridor with five off-line stations. The seminar studied how the PRT has impacted town life in this hilly metro area just over an hour south of Pittsburgh.

Topics Summary

Bob Johnson (working with WVU) presented "lite PRT" ideas to feed four existing PRT stations. Peter Muller presented a "modern PRT" concept to fulfill the network potential of the existing corridor. Some real estate developers landbanking near the off-line ramps of the PRT Maintenance Facility have proposed extending it up to their district. Morgantown's new long-range transportation plan mentions extensions of both ends of the PRT line. The biggest challenge is bridging the town-gown divide.
